It gives me great pleasure to announce that our SSP has recently been named for the fifth consecutive time as the highest performing area in England for the amount of schools achieving the School Games Mark awards.

Schools throughout the UK can qualify for the School Games Mark, a government-led awards scheme which rewards schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community.

Qualifying criteria include how many children at each school are engaged in sporting activity; how many different sports are being played;  how many pupils are involved alongside taking part in competitions, and how many local links the school has with clubs or establishments in the area.

Four of its schools, Flamborough CE Primary, Hornsea Community Primary, Martongate Primary and New Pasture Lane Primary, have already achieved the top platinum award, with a further 16 eligible this year. A further 28 schools hold gold, 14 silver and 6 bronze award.

The SSP, which leads on the School Games Programme for the area is managed by partnership development manager Angel Rhodes, who says: “Our partnership goes from strength to strength, due to the fantastic support we get from the headteachers and staff.

“We are an extremely proactive area for PE and school sport and I am delighted that we have been given recognition for this. A huge thank you to the headteachers and staff for their continued support and hard work, and a massive congratulations to all of the pupils across the area!”
