Hornsea Cluster Update

Busy start for Hornsea schools

This year’s first event began at Hornsea School and Language College on Thursday 25th September for the annual preliminary rounds of the East Riding Cross Country. On a cold blustery evening participation remained high for the key stage 1 and 2 event. All pupils ran fantastically well, each fighting for their deserved place. Special congratulations went to Kye Broughton (Leven), Mathew Dales (Leven) and Matthew Shaw (Leven) who came 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively in their year 6 race. In addition to Ella Wilcock (Leven), Jade Newlove (Beeford) and Lucy Sleight (Hornsea) in the year 6 girl’s race. All top 6 boys and girls got to represent the cluster in the next round of the tournament.

In next round we had some exceptional results. We had Kye Broughton come 15th in the boy’s event out of 83. However the girls were even more pleasing with Daisy Evans coming 4th and our very own Kirsty Drakeford 1st from 77 participants. What an amazing achievement. These girls will progress to the level 3 event and represent East Riding.

The Hornsea year 5 and 6 Mixed Football Tournament was also well attended with 7 teams competing with representing schools from Hornsea, Sigglesthorne, Brandesburton and Beeford . The matches were closely fought with some surprising results. Hornsea fielded the strongest team who came out eventual winners of the tournament. Just a few points behind were Beeford who came a close second with Brandesburton securing third place. Due to team restrictions Hornsea School got to represent both the boys and girls in the next round along with Brandesburton for the school schools tournament.

The next event to be held at Hornsea School was the years 5 and 6 Hockey Quick Sticks Tournament. This was the first Hockey Tournament completed by the Cluster, and what a fantastic event. The indoor event provided a great experience for pupils to compete against one another. 2 teams from Hornsea, Beeford and Leven entered the event which resulted in some thrilling games. The Hornsea A team came in 4th position, Leven B & Beeford B in joint 3rd, Hornsea B 2nd with Beeford A and Leven A toping the league. A play-off match was the result which went down to the wire after a 0 – 0 score line. Leven were the eventual winners winning 2 – 0 on penalties. Leven will get to represent the cluster in the next round at Hymers College.

Well done to the Cluster, keep up the good work!
